Unidentified Makes Launchpad History

June is quickly approaching, and you know what that means: Launchpad Finals! We will again be hosting 13 great Wisconsin, garage bands in Madison who have been selected through their regional or wildcard competitions. While each band involved in Launchpad is unique, the band Unidentified from Osseo-Fairchild High School is making Launchpad history by becoming the first all girl band to take part in the competition!

The folk band includes Madeline Carlson on vocals and violin, Stephanie Arnould on fiddle, Sarah Emert on bass, Kacia Hagen on drums, and Michaela Shuttleworth on guitar. After forming just this December they have played everything from gigs at their high school, to their favorite experience of playing for a nine-year-old’s birthday party.

Aside from being involved in their band the girls participate in their school music programs through band, choir as well as their school musicals. Through this participation the girls were first encouraged to go “outside the band room with (their) music,” by their band director Theresa Soules (Carlson). Soules not only encouraged the girls to form the band but also convinced the girls to compete in Lauchpad.

Mike Shuttleworth, the band’s supervisor, has really encouraged the band to not only push themselves musically but also have more fun with the experience.

Unidentified will be playing at Launchpad Finals on June 9th at Union South in The Sett. To find out more about the event and program visit launchpadwisconsin.org. The girls are excited about their participation in the event and hope Unidentified inspires other girls to participate in their own bands!
